OpenAI sued as ChatGPT allegedly advised epilepsy medication taper that led to death
Parents of Bowen Wan, a 31‑year‑old former Amazon engineer who died in February, filed a wrongful‑death lawsuit on Oct 27 alleging GPT‑4o gave her a plan to cut her 400 mg lamotrigine dose to zero and hide the change from doctors. The complaint says the chatbot also praised her decision to skip a blood test that could have measured medication levels.
Why it matters
Add strict safeguards to block medical dosage advice from GPT‑4o; users may otherwise follow harmful recommendations.
